Pho Soup is in the Belly

It's Pho Soup Friday and the #2, Brisket Pho with a cafe Sua Da has been acquired and it's in my belly.

The weather forecast has changed again with a lot more rain (50%) in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday. There's something about me registering for a race and then unGodly conditions prevail for the race. 103 degrees, been there, 30 mph winds during a 20-miler, done that, torrential downpour and flooding enough to cause cancellation, uh, yeah. Even ice during the marathon. So I go in wanting ideal conditions but know that it may be brutal. I'm up for anything except cancellation. I easily say that in the air conditioned comfort of the office with a belly of pho soup.

The legs felt better this morning than in a long time. Very springy. I wanted to go further than the four miles but cut it off.

Pho Soup is in the Tank

Three people around me were not feeling well and it's the Friday before the race so the only thing to do was to down a big bowl of pho soup with lots of peppers and sprouts from the Vietnamese restaurant next to UT. Mmmmm, that'll boost the immune system to thump any germs that come around.

The weather forecast now has over a 50% chance of rain through Tuesday so it could be a very wet triathlon. Some estimates are for three-to-ten inches of rain between now and Wednesday morning.

I watched an interesting program on FitTV last night. Gabrielle Reese was interviewing Barry Zito for the show Insider Training and Barry went through some of his routines for warming up and training. Let's just say very inspirational and eye-opening. The yoga inclusion, the elaborate warmup before throwing a single pitch or even a single toss of the ball. I checked the FitTV.com Web site and they're going to rerun the episode a couple more times this weekend.

Interesting NY Times article on interval training and the impact on fitness. I agree with the research, I just don't know if it's the thing to do year-round. I would definitely do an interval workout once a week each for a swim, bike and run for six-to-eight weeks prior to the event.

Expo and Pho Soup Friday

The Oroweat Health and Fitness Expo for the ATT Austin Marathon opens today. Packet pickup, chip testing and all the booths to check out with new, cool stuff. But before the expo opens at 3:00 p.m., it's pho soup time for lunch. Ever since last year before the marathon when I had the flu, eating pho soup the Friday before the race makes everything right. It balances the body into it's ying/yang, acid/alkaline way.
